Chapter 07

Reviews & Balance

A week you never look back on teaches you nothing. W52 closes each one with a review that takes two taps — and turns fifty-two of them into the long view.

The Sunday review

When a week ends, W52 asks three small things: how did life feel — energised, good, neutral, stretched, overwhelmed; which role felt most neglected, if any; and whether there’s anything worth remembering. Nothing is compulsory, nothing is graded, and the whole thing genuinely takes under a minute. It works because it’s cheap — a review you’ll actually do every week beats a journal you abandon by February.

The W52 weekly review: a feeling picker from Energised to Overwhelmed, an optional neglected-role question, and a short note — 'Everything landed. The 15 km felt easy, the workshop sold out…'

The score, honestly kept

Each closed week earns a score out of 100, built from things you can actually influence:

  • Follow-through — of what you planned, how much happened. The score rewards keeping a modest promise over breaking an ambitious one.
  • Alignment — whether the week’s effort landed where your role importances (and any running season) say it should.
  • How it felt — the review’s feeling, because a technically perfect week that ran you over isn’t one worth repeating.
The W52 Balance screen: a score dial reading 100, this week's per-role balance bars, records for planning streak and follow-through, and the 52-week journey grid filling in with green squares.

The 52-week journey

The bottom of Balance is the reason the app is called W52: a square for every week of the year, shaded by score. It’s deliberately reminiscent of a garden more than a dashboard — some weeks bloom, some don’t, and the picture only means something over months. Tap any square to look back at that week: what was planned, what happened, what you wrote. The records strip above it — planning streak, follow-through, personal best, weeks a Core role was protected — celebrates consistency, never volume.

Sometimes the honest answer to “is this balanced?” is it shouldn’t be right now. That’s what seasons are for.
